About Colin

Colin is a husband, dad and Granddad. He lives in Yorkshire with his family and dogs. Where he wanders the beautiful countryside, coming up with Ideas for his books.

My Story

THE BEGINNING

Colin was born in a mining village in Nottinghamshire, England in 1963. His extended family had moved there during the ’60s from the northeast.

His family name Sinclair can be traced back to the Knights Templar and the Scottish ruling family of Caithness. The owners of the famous Rosslyn Chapel, the suggested resting place of the Holy Grail.

His family not having access to the Holy Grail decided that it might be a good Idea to go on a crusade of their own and so when he was seven years old, they moved to the middle east in search of their own Holy Grail.

THE MIDDLE

From this time on Colin led a life between two worlds.

His first being in the still developing country of Kuwait. Where, as a family employed in the Oil Industry, they led a Disney like existence. They lived in a small town inhabited and built mainly for expats. As a result of this, the community created an existence much like you see on any American family style sit com. from the 1960’s. There were parties and swimming pools, motor bikes, horses, speed boats, sailboats, in fact anything you could dream of. Much of life was centered around water, it being a hot country. His love of music and acting got him involved in performances during holiday times for the expat community.

His second life was centered around boarding school in the UK. It was here that he first discovered his love for music and acting. He was quickly involved in choirs that sang all over the country in large cathedrals and then moved onto performing in musicals in lead roles. It was here that he got his love for words and writing. He also submerged himself in all sporting activities from Rugby to Athletics touring with teams all over the UK.

He travelled between these two worlds three times a year till he was 18 years old when he returned to the UK to do something, he can’t quite remember what.

FROM LIVING IN STORIES TO WRITING THEM

I remember sometime in the 1970s writing a poem, and I can still remember the first two lines to this day.

“The hangman came to our village

With his noose and his platform bare”

I was already an avid reader and an English teacher I had at the time fostered my interest in stories of all kinds. At my school we had an internal magazine that we used to publish simply for all the pupils, and I wrote some content for that.

Life took over and though I continued to act and sing, I didn’t pursue writing of any kind till I was in my late 40s. At this point in my life I found I had more time as my kids had grown up enough to become a little more independent, so I started to write some poetry.

It wasn’t though till I was in my 50’s that I decided to write my first book so I sat down and in a matter of 5 weeks I had “Elji and The Galrass” down on paper, even if it was in rough format. It was a further month till I had edited the manuscript and by then I had started querying Agents and Publishers.

To my surprise and astonishment, I was offered a publishing contract with a small Indie Publisher in the USA. Elji and The Galrass was released into the world.

Since that time I have been busily writing the next two books in the series and a number of other projects that I have started.

Watch this space for the next books.
